Improve Training and Recognition for NYPD Auxiliary Police Officers

Improve Training and Recognition for NYPD Auxiliary Police Officers

The Issue

I speak to you as an auxiliary police lieutenant. From firsthand experience, I've observed that the New York Police Department does not give due recognition and proper training to our auxiliary police officers. This creates a disparity in effectiveness and preparedness among our forces which should be rectified in the interest of the safety of our communities.

Auxiliary Police Officers play an important role in local law enforcement, aiding full-time officers and serving their communities. However, they are not being appropriately trained or recognized by the NYPD. These officers are expected to perform their duties without receiving the same level of training that their NYPD counterparts receive. It's like fighting with one hand tied behind their back, making their jobs more challenging and dangerous.

To address these issues, we strongly urge the NYPD to extend their academy training to include the Auxiliary Police Officers. It's crucial that these officers are given the same level of training and education so they can be as effective as possible when called into action. Proper training will not just enhance their skills but also validate their contributions and critical role within the NYPD.

Therefore, we urge the NYPD to recognize the valuable contributions of the auxiliary officers and provide them with the needed academy training. We look forward to a more effective NYPD, supported by properly trained, recognized, and fully enabled auxiliary officers. Sign this petition to advocate for enhanced training and recognition for NYPD Auxiliary Police Officers.
