The Issue

Residents of South Main Street in Roanoke, Illinois are requesting immediate traffic safety measures following recent roadway and bridge changes near the intersection of South Main and East Front Street.

Since the project was completed, vehicles are regularly traveling 40–50 mph in a posted 25 mph zone. The removal of stop signs, changes to the road alignment, and the increased height of the bridge walls have created dangerous blind spots. Residents now have difficulty safely exiting their driveways because approaching vehicles cannot be seen across the bridge.

Multiple near-accidents have already occurred, and the area is used daily by children, pedestrians, joggers, cyclists, and pets. Law enforcement has been notified several times, but speeding and unsafe driving continue.
