Improve traffic safety in Southwest Naperville!

Improve traffic safety in Southwest Naperville!
The Issue
This petition is to seek a solution from the City of Naperville regarding the continued and consistent issue of performance vehicles and motorcycles speeding and drag racing down the open stretches of primarily residential roads in Southwest Naperville. Residents from as far West as Wolf’s Crossing and 95th Street, to the Eastern Bolingbrook border at 95th Street (King’s Road) and Hassert Blvd, as well as those who reside along the intersecting Book and Naper Plainfield Roads, from 75th Street all the way South through 111th, have all reported being affected by this problematic and dangerous behavior by drivers.
The open stretches of road down both Book Road and 95th Street in particular are nestled into a uniquely quiet and traditionally safe area of Naperville. Offset from the traffic and commerce of both 75th Street and Rt 59, this area is almost entirely residential, insulated by the Springbrook Prairie, Naperville’s second public library, and the renowned Nequa Valley High School.
Unfortunately, the combination of factors that make this area so wonderful also present an enticing opportunity for drivers looking to achieve dangerous high speeds in performance vehicles and motorcycles. It is also a location that attracts drivers seeking to drag race. The homeowners in this area are concerned about traffic safety for their residents, and for the excessively loud noise and nuisance these illegal activities create. These activities typically peak from 8 to 11 pm and 5-8 am, but can be witnessed and heard throughout the night as well.
We are asking the City of Naperville to seek a solution to improve the safety of these roadways. We encourage safe traffic for our residents, the patrons of the library boasting a park and splash pad popular with young families, and Nequa Valley students and staff. It is our concern these roadways are not considered well monitored for high speed driving and racing, and therefore they have become a destination spot for these activities that are not only a loud nuisance, but also dangerous.
