Improve the Poor Cowden Living Conditions - We Deserve Restitution
The Issue
As a resident of Cowden Hall, a dormitory at Northern Arizona University, I am tired of the poor living conditions that we have had to deal with all year long. Specifically, the bathrooms have been a major issue. All of the showers in the building have been closed off for days, and the bathrooms seem to be constantly under maintenance. Hot water has been off for months, and the showers are often rusty and moldy. These issues are just from my personal experience, as well as the experiences of others on the 3rd floor. I can only imagine how many more problems there are in the rest of the building.
Unfortunately, the problems don't stop with the bathrooms. There are also constant issues with the washers and dryers being out of order, broken water fountains that take weeks to get fixed, and archaic features of the building that haven't been renovated, such as the kitchen sinks. To top it off, many of the dorm furnishings were broken when we moved in. It's unacceptable that we are paying such high rent for such poor living conditions. We have filed countless reports, yet nothing seems to change. These problems have and are affecting our mental health and academic lives, and we are fed up.
We, the students of Cowden Hall, demand financial compensation for the outrageous living standards we've been forced to endure since day one. The rent we pay is substantially higher than it should be, given the conditions we're living in. We deserve better, and we won't stop until our demands are met.
