The Issue

My name is Christian Cordeiro. I am a Dartmouth resident and graduated from Gr. New Bedford Voc-Tech this past Spring. I currently attend Roger Williams University in Bristol,  Rhode Island, pursuing a dual major in criminal justice and psychology.

During my high school career, I was fortunate enough to have a close bond with Marin Celia Stackpole. She grew up in Fairhaven and attended Gr. New Bedford Voc-Tech in the grade below me. She was a person who was full of energy and could brighten anyone's day with the slightest interaction. She was loved by all who knew her, and reciprocated that love with more passion.

Tragically, her life was taken from this world this past summer. On July 5th, 2025, she was involved in an accident on Route 6 East in Fairhaven. She was driving home from watching the sunset at Fort Phoenix, and died down the street from her house. Someone from this community, a loved member of this community, passed away at the young age of 17. Three months following this tragedy, people continue to grieve her passing deeply.

This accident can be described as a 'freak accident,' but that is not what the statistics entail. According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation crash data portal, there have been 607 logged accidents on Route 6 in the past 5 years. This has become a common theme in the area, which just should not be the case.

People lose their cars, lose their money, and lose their lives due to the lack of safety precautions on this road. It should not be the case. Please consider signing this petition to ensure change and protect the safety of all commuters in the area.
