Improve the Condition of Lincoln Hospital Garage - now

The Issue

We, the Lincoln Hospital patient care providers including physicians, nurses, and others working in direct care to patients demand immediate action to improve the poor condition of the Lincoln Hospital parking garage with transparency and communication about what steps are being taken and when results can be expected. The most pressing issues include but are not limited to:

  1. Maintenance and safety: Crumbling floors and compromised structural integrity of the garage. The NYC Department of Buildings/Environmental Control Board inspection report of violations is very troubling. What is the plan for remediation?
  2. Overcrowding of the garage (capacity 750 vehicles) resulting in lack of parking for monthly customers (900 vehicles)
  3. Inadequate accessible parking:  Many of the existing spaces are out of compliance with federal ADA regulations, especially on the 2nd floor where they are too narrow. It makes no sense to place accessible spaces on the roof instead of on the second floor near the hospital entrance.
  4. Restricted spaces: Excessive number of reserved parking spaces (53) with most held by nonessential hospital employees who are not directly involved in patient care. Most of the restricted spaces should be eliminated and the remaining ones moved to another floor, away from the hospital door, to allow for easier handicapped access.
  5. Aggressive ticketing by hospital police when physicians and nurses are unable to find parking spaces due to overcrowding or need to park overnight.
