Improve the Appointment System at the Jamaican High Commission

The Issue

My 86-year-old friend and I traveled from Birmingham to London for a pre-scheduled appointment at the Jamaican High Commissioner’s office in London. We were made to wait over 2 hours beyond our scheduled appointment time with no apology given. Compounding the issue, we were left standing during the entire interview. We missed our return coach back to Birmingham. This is not just a story about an elderly person's discomfort, it's a story about a system that lacks respect for the people it serves, irrespective of their age or situation.

The Jamaican High Commission's current protocol of scheduled appointments severely fails to deliver on its potential for efficiency and respect for individuals' time and physical abilities. A 2019 survey highlights that customer satisfaction with appointment-based services is strongly correlated with timeliness and the respect of the providers (The American Customer Satisfaction Index). Yet, at the Jamaican High Commission, such fundamental aspects of service are woefully deficient.

Senior citizens, those with physical disabilities, and anybody who has dedicated their time and resources to travel across the country for their appointments should not be subjected to such an incongruous system. It is vital for the Jamaican High Commission to rectify this as a matter of urgency. This petition calls for an immediate revision and improvement of the existing appointment system to ensure timely, respectful, and efficient service for all.
