Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District #35 is located in the small community of Rio Rico, Arizona. Many children and many teachers attend the schools in this place. The purpose of this petition is to demand that schools improve their security systems, hire qualified people to protect the students and staff members, provide trainings on what actions should teachers and staff take in case of a violent event in school, and make the necessary changes in the schools buildings in order to keep the school community safe. With all the sad and violent events that have been happening throughout the country (shootings in schools), where many inocent students and school staff has lost their lives or ended up traumatized, it is urgent to take action to make schools safe. In SCVUSD #35 there are schools that have no security cameras, where people have easy access to the school building because the gates are unlocked, as well as the entrances to the main buildings. Parents leave their children in school everyday, thinking that they will see them later in the day. Children get to their classrooms happy and excited to see their teachers and their friends. Teachers, who are also parents, go to work and make their best to teach their students and make a difference in them, but it is scary and it is sad to know that in a matter of minutes everything can change. Our children, teachers and every person in our school district deserves to be safe, and something needs to be done. This petition demands security cameras, locked doors and gates, trainings if necessary, and qualified security staff in our schools. Let's do something now to prevent a tragedy, and let's be prepared.
