The Issue

In Aspatria, there's an alarming truth affecting the daily lives of our children – the absence of a safe crossing near our primary school along the A596. This busy route, heavily trafficked by wagons heading to Workington, poses a significant threat to the safety of our young ones, and it's time for action.

Our town has endured the perilous situation of lacking a pedestrian crossing and a dedicated lollipop person, primarily due to the high risk of collisions. Each day, parents like myself hold our breath as we watch our children navigate these dangerous crossings. We worry about their wellbeing and safety. The fear of accidents is ever-present in our community.

Given that our children are forced to cross this hazardous road on their way to school, the Cumberland council must address this issue immediately by installing traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing. This simple yet effective measure will ensure our children can travel to school without the constant threat of vehicle collision, making their journey not only safer but also reassuring for parents.

The project is not just about traffic regulation; it’s about protecting the young lives that represent our future. Implementing a secure crossing with attentive measures aligns with the council's duty to prioritize citizens' safety, especially the most vulnerable.

We urge the Cumberland council to swiftly act upon this necessity, allocating resources for traffic management solutions in Aspatria. The investment in traffic lights and a crossing can mitigate the daily risks faced by our schoolchildren. It’s a proactive step towards safeguarding our community.

Join me in demanding these much-needed changes and standing up for the security of our children. Sign this petition today to make our voices heard. Together, we can influence the Cumberland council to prioritize the welfare of our community’s children and make Aspatria a safe place for them to grow and thrive. Sign now and help create a safer passage to education for our future generations.
