Improve Safety Standards at the Mandurah Foreshore Playground

The issue

As a parent who has personally watched my children and others suffer injuries at the new Mandurah foreshore playground (along Mandurah terrace), I know how critical this issue is. As I have witnessed, and heard from numerous mothers, some injuries have been so severe that they necessitated first aid or ambulance services. In its present form, the playground is blighted by hazardous limestone rocks, metal, and concrete, which pose a threat not only to children's fun but, more importantly, to their safety.

According to Kidsafe WA, “All equipment over 600mm in height, and equipment that creates forced movement (e.g. swings) should be surrounded by certified soft fall surfacing” -  we can agree this is not a soft landing. It also says that over 1000 kids present at PCH for fall-related playground injuries each year. At the current state, the Mandurah Foreshore Playground is contributing to these alarming statistics.

ADDED:

From comments by parents, we are calling for improved safety standards, including removal of limestone rocks, a barrier at the toddler slide, soft fall surfacing throughout, covering or removing exposed metal latches/bolts etc, and removing the beam jutting out near the metal climb frame.

Please join me in keeping our children safe at our wonderful foreshore.
