The Issue

Madrona Drive and 34th Avenue have become increasingly dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists, and children who rely on these streets. What began as the concern of a single parent has grown into a united community effort to improve safety for everyone who travels these routes.

Although the posted speed limit is 25 mph, vehicles frequently travel far faster, creating serious risks and contributing to numerous accidents each year.

In response, neighbors have come together after witnessing repeated instances of reckless driving and unsafe conditions. This group is advocating for meaningful, proven safety improvements, including traffic-calming measures such as speed bumps, clearer signage, marked pedestrian crossings, completed sidewalks, and improved lighting in high-risk areas. These changes would significantly slow traffic and make the route safer for schoolchildren, pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike.

Traffic calming is not just about enforcing speed limits—it is about protecting lives.

We urge local authorities to make safety on Madrona Drive and 34th Avenue a priority. While we recognize the challenges of limited municipal budgets, investing in road safety is an investment in the health, security, and well-being of our community. These improvements are both necessary and achievable, with long-term benefits for all who live and travel here.

Join us in calling on local government to take action now. Together, we can make Madrona, Leschi, and Denny-Blaine safer for everyone who walks, bikes, or drives along it. Please sign this petition to show your support and help us deliver this message to decision-makers.
