The Issue

Living on the A10 between Milton and Waterbeach, not far from the notorious Humphries Way junction, is a constant reminder of the urgent need for improved safety measures. The sheer number of collisions and near misses at this junction is terrifying for me and the countless others who travel this route daily. The amount of blue lights at this junction is is not just a statistic; it's a lived reality for residents of Milton and Landbeach along with everyone who frequents this dangerous stretch of road.

The junction, just north of Cambridge, has been a hotspot for traffic incidents for far too long. In 2024 alone, 5 collisions were logged at the junction, 3 of them serious, with 8 casualties. The cost in human terms is immeasurable, but these incidents also strain local emergency services and disrupt the lives of those involved and those travelling along this route.

There is a plan for the Waterbeach new town developer, Urban and Civic, to fund an upgrade to this junction, but not until 300 houses have been sold. Immediate action is needed to prevent further tragedies. Residents should not have to wait for a fatality before action is taken.

The longer we delay, the higher the risk of yet another life-altering collision. The safety of our community should not be compromised. I urge Cambridgeshire County Council to prioritise this vital issue and work with the developer to bring forward these works and plug any funding gap: implementing these changes now might save lives.

Please support this petition by signing it today. Our collective voice can influence decision-makers to take the necessary steps to safeguard our community. We should not have to tolerate this many collisions. Together, we can make the Humphries Way junction safer for everyone.
