I am a concerned resident of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Our beloved town has become an area where many fear to tread. Retail workers and shoppers are threatened and abused daily. The once vibrant streets are now marred by human waste, making it unbearable for older people and parents who no longer feel safe in the town.

The Parliament Row area is particularly affected, with anti-social behaviour becoming the norm rather than the exception. This situation is unacceptable and needs urgent attention from our local council and police force.

According to a recent survey by Staffordshire Police, crime rates have increased significantly in Hanley over the past year (Staffordshire Police Crime Report 2021). This rise coincides with an increase in homelessness and drug-related activities which have been largely ignored by those responsible for maintaining law and order.

Our plea is not just about cleaning up our streets physically but also restoring safety so that everyone can enjoy what Hanley has to offer without fear or discomfort. We need immediate action to address these issues - more police patrols, stricter enforcement against anti-social behaviour, support for homeless individuals instead of neglecting them, as well as regular clean-ups to maintain hygiene standards.

We call on the council of Stoke-on-Trent City Council as well as Staffordshire Police Force to take immediate action towards improving conditions in Hanley. Let's restore pride in our community!
