Improve safety and accessibility at Martin Reserve Dog Park

Improve safety and accessibility at Martin Reserve Dog Park
The issue
Dear Maribyrnong City Council
The Martin Reserve Dog Park in Footscray is a beloved community resource for residents and their furry friends. However, its current condition has raised concerns among the regular users and residents of the Maribyrnong area. We are calling on the Maribyrnong City Council to address these issues to ensure the park remains a safe and enjoyable space for everyone.
Firstly, the park suffers from insufficient lighting. As the days get shorter, this lack of proper illumination makes the park unsafe and difficult to use in the evenings. Many residents and dog owners prefer evening visits due to daytime work commitments. The poor lighting situation not only poses safety risks but also limits the usability of the park, restricting community interaction and enjoyment.
Secondly, there are several areas within the park that are on a lower level, causing water to pool after rainfall. This results in the formation of large puddles and muddy surfaces, creating an uncomfortable and potentially hazardous environment. It also limits accessibility for those with mobility issues, preventing them from enjoying the park to its full potential.
To resolve these issues, we propose the installation of adequate lighting throughout the park to enhance safety and extend usage hours. Additionally, leveeing low-lying areas or installing proper drainage systems can prevent water accumulation and maintain the park's accessibility year-round.
It's paramount for the Maribyrnong City Council to invest in these improvements to ensure the safety, accessibility, and continued enjoyment of Martin Reserve Dog Park. Residents and regular park users cherish this space and want to see it maintained as a vibrant part of our community.
By signing this petition, you are supporting the initiative to improve Martin Reserve Dog Park and advocating for a safe and accessible environment for all. Let's work together to make a positive change in our community.
Thank you.
