The Issue

https://tristatealert.com/escooter-rider-killed-on-longmeadow-road-tuesday-morning-wcso-investigating/ Just yesterday, we lost a dear friend on Longmeadow Road. He was not just a friend, but a cherished member of a family. As such, his unnecessary death is not isolated to his circle but affects the entire Hagerstown community bound in shared grief. His life, like so many others, was taken away due to inadequate road safety measures—insufficient road lighting and lack of traffic lights on Longmeadow Road. Too many lives have been lost and injuries sustained due to these shortcomings.

In an era where safe transport networks are seen as a fundamental citizen's right, it's heartbreaking that residents of Hagerstown are succumbing to accidents linked to unlit roads and vehicular recklessness. People matter, not just those in vehicles, but pedestrians and those using other means of transportation too.

We find ourselves forced to raise our voices and plead for better safety on our roads. We need proper street lighting, particularly on Longmeadow Road, where inadequate visibility has been a critical factor in numerous accidents. We are also appealing for the installation of traffic lights to regulate vehicle speed in this area often misused as a 'race track.'

This plea is more than a demand for infrastructural developments. It's a call for the preservation of life. A call to prevent families from losing loved ones and individuals from enduring unnecessary pain and suffering. Let's not wait for another life to be lost before we act.

We urge the pertinent authorities in Hagerstown, Maryland, to prioritize and act upon this road safety crisis. Only then can we ensure that no more lives are lost on Longmeadow Road due to negligence.
