Petition for Immediate Road Safety Improvements at Dewdney Elementary School

The residents of Dewdney are calling for immediate action to address serious safety concerns on Hawkins Pickle Road in front of Dewdney Elementary School.

Every school day, children must navigate heavy truck traffic and speeding vehicles without adequate pedestrian safety measures. The lack of marked crosswalks, safe walking routes, flashing school zone lights, and speed-control measures places students and families at unnecessary risk.

We are urging municipal and provincial authorities to take immediate action by:

•Installing clearly marked pedestrian crosswalks.

•Creating designated safe walking routes and pedestrian safety zones.

•Installing flashing school zone warning lights and enhanced signage.

•Installing solar-powered radar speed feedback signs on both approaches to the school zone.

•Implementing additional traffic-calming measures.

•Increasing speed enforcement during school hours.

•Conducting a comprehensive traffic and pedestrian safety assessment of Hawkins Pickle Road.

The risks are evident every day, and action should not wait until a serious accident occurs. Our children deserve a safe route to and from school.
