A new video has been uploaded to YouTube showing a nighttime drive along the same dangerous curve on Logan Avenue where my beloved niece, Athena Zarmakoupis, lost her life on October 31st.

This footage gives a more accurate depiction of how the conditions may have been that night, including the level of visibility, hazards and signage drivers encounter after dark.

Do you notice the GAP in road signage immediately after the railway tracks? And do you see how the concrete barrier after that gap and its warning reflectors only come into sight at the very last moment?

It’s important to note that the speed limit along Logan Avenue is consistently 70 km/h, then after the last set of traffic lights before the accident scene, drops to 60 km/h, and then suddenly to a recommended 30 km/h warning just before the railway tracks. A driver unfamiliar with this road could easily miss the 60 km/h sign, and while too focused on the dangerous railway crossing ahead and possibility of an oncoming train, may not notice the 30 km/h advisory in time to slow down safely before the sharp curve.

These conditions make this corner extremely hazardous.

🙏 Please sign and share this petition to help ensure stronger signage, lighting, and visibility measures are installed before another tragedy occurs. Do it for Athena, and for the safety of everyone who travels this road.

In remembrance of my beloved niece, Athena Zarmakoupis, I am calling for immediate action to ensure the safety of everyone travelling a dangerous stretch of Glover Road in Langley, BC near Trinity Western University.

Athena's life was tragically cut short in the early morning hours of October 31, 2025 riding as a passenger in a vehicle where inadequate road signage and unsafe speed transitions MAY have been a contributing factor (police investigation still ongoing). Athena had left her own vehicle at home that night, as she knew she would be drinking, and made arrangements for a ride home (asked for a designated driver) instead.

On this perilous stretch of Glover Road, the speed limit rapidly shifts from 70 km/h to 60 km/h, and then abruptly to 30 km/h within mere seconds. This sudden change is compounded by the fact that the singular 30 km/h sign is nearly invisible, especially at night. Drivers approaching this section are faced with a daunting railway track that obstructs their view, followed by a sharp left-hand curve. If they miss the lone speed reduction sign and are unable to fully make the sharp turn, they are on a direct trajectory toward an upward-sloping concrete barrier, risking the harrowing outcome of launching their vehicle airborne.

This scenario is not just a minor oversight; it is a fatal flaw that has already claimed the life of a young precious soul and poses a continuous threat to other road users. It is imperative that the city of Langley, BC take immediate action to rectify this dangerous situation to prevent further senseless tragedies.

Our proposal is straightforward yet critical: install a stop sign at the railway crossing and ensure there is prominent and clear signage indicating speed changes well ahead of these hazards. We urge city officials to prioritize the safety of their residents and mitigate the clear risks on this part of Glover Road.

Please, join me in demanding accountability and action from the Langley city authorities. Athena's legacy should be one of change and safety for all.

Sign this petition and help pave the way for a future where no more lives are lost on this stretch of road.

In the loving memory of Athena Zarmakoupis.
