May 10th, 2024 was a day that shook my family to the core. My daughter was hit at the intersection of Manse Rd and Corination Drive in Scarborough. This is not a story about a random, unforeseeable event. This is about a daily risk that the residents of Scarborough face when crossing this dangerous intersection.

My children and I cross this intersection daily, and while waiting for the bus, we witness 5 to 10 drivers blatantly ignore the rules, speeding through the 4-way stop. This recklessness has turned our simple act of commuting into a life-threatening ordeal.

Statistics suggest that my family's experience is not unique. Hundreds of pedestrians face similar circumstances every day across the city. Studies show that about 54% of pedestrian-involved accidents occur in intersections in Ontario, making them the most dangerous locations for pedestrians (Source: Ontario Road Safety Annual Report).

The residents of Scarborough deserve to commute safely without fearing for their lives due to reckless drivers. We request the local government to take immediate action to increase road safety at this intersection. This could include installing traffic cameras, increasing police presence, or redesigning the intersection for clearer visibility and stricter traffic control.
