Buses going in opposite directions with the exact same number continually results in people getting on the wrong buses, causing undue stress, anxiety, and wasted time. This doubly so impacts tourists and others with limited English ability.

I propose that bus numbers have a letter added to the end to signify the direction.

130M: Metro direction
130E: Regional Direction
123C: Clockwise Direction
123A: Anticlockwise Direction

If I know I have to take bus 130, I shouldn't have to try and decipher which 130 it is. I should be able to glance at a bus and know whether it is my bus or not.

Not only have I boarded the wrong bus multiple times, but I've also met many other victims of this situation. One older Chinese lady had lost her independence due to lacking English skills and being afraid if she went out by bus she would be unable to find her way back.

I hear this same story over and over again. No one should have to live like that.
