Improve Pedestrian Safety Around Lockwood Elementary

Improve Pedestrian Safety Around Lockwood Elementary
The Issue
For those of us living in the neighborhood of Lockwood Elementary, the lack of pedestrian safety is a daily reality. As a resident, I can attest to the dangers. As the area becomes more developed and densely populated, traffic in this area has increased. On numerous occasions we have found ourselves dangerously close to traffic traveling well above the speed limit and ignoring traffic signs.
The most precarious areas include the Lockwood and Carter intersection, the section of Carter without sidewalk between the bridge over Swamp Creek and Forsgren Park, and the bridge just south of Lockwood Elementary. Elementary and middle school aged children walk these routes to get to school everyday. We ask our local authorities to take immediate, concrete action to remedy these safety concerns.
Every year in the U.S., approximately 5,977 pedestrians are killed in traffic crashes (source: CDC). We can no longer dismiss the dangers our children are exposed to daily as they walk to school along these perilous routes.
By signing, you are urging local authorities to recognize and act on the necessity of a safe pedestrian environment around Lockwood Elementary and Kenmore middle school. Protect our children and make our neighborhood safe.
