Improve parking at Kode Sporting Club in New Cairo

Improve parking at Kode Sporting Club in New Cairo
The Issue
Following the long anticipated opening of Kode Sports Club, many of us have been relieved and excited to have a space to accommodate our family life and sporting needs. We’ve seen over the past 18 months many strong points and many improvements yet the parking topic remains a huge issue and one that is causing serious pain to members and staff alike.
During the peak times of the club, of which there are many because of the concentration of sports practice, entering and leaving the club has become an incredible burden. There aren’t enough spots for all members, the limited spots are often taken up by drivers who are waiting inside their cars thereby leaving hurried parents only two choices; drop your child off at the gate and risk them entering the club safely, or keep them with you and go park anywhere else (which is often far from the club’s entrance) and walk the entire way back, again risking their safety as they navigate the main road and a cramped parking lot with cars moving everywhere. Not to mention, that the cars parked or circulating the parking lot are often at risk because of the double parking, the lack of space and maneuverability as many are queuing waiting for a parking spot. There is endless risk in what should be a simple matter of club entrance and exit.
We are therefore presenting you with this petition seeking a prompt and worthy solution to the parking problem. Our aim is to transform the repetitive complaints circulating members’ conversations into productive change and this has generated a few ideas outlined below.
Firstly, there are easy solutions that can help smoothen the parking process:
- Parking guidelines are sometimes not respected, which results in a space that can occupy three cars for example only accommodating two. While the staff exerts a lot of effort to prevent this from happening, we believe there should also be rubber borders installed on the parking lines that prohibits anyone from parking incorrectedly and saves others from having to repeat the same mistake.
- Hiring more staff patrolling the parking lot, on each floor, to ensure correct parking as well as removing any car whose driver occupies it (or has parked it and is sitting inside by the gate) because this simply takes up from another member’s opportunity to find a parking spot. The driver can wait outside the club and meet the member when they are requested.
- Offering a valet service that is reliable and secure to assist those seeking help.
Secondly, we should work on reducing congestion at gates and encouraging members to find parking spots that are farther from the main entrance but still convenient. This can only happen if:
- Increase entry points to the club. Currently, we can only enter from one single gate that has 3 turnstiles. This causes awful congestion and means everyone is heading to the same point. Many would be less agitated to park outside if they can find an easy, secure path to follow into the club meaning safe entrance to all and with less traffic. We have attached a picture of where such gates can be and see this as a convenient solution that also addresses the time pressure (especially with sports practice) that causes parking to be such a pain point. If the entrance point is close to where the child needs to be, multiple drop off points become available.
Lastly, there are more longterm solutions that should be addressed to generate more parking spots for members:
- Enable perpendicular parking against the sidewalk outside which would help accommodate more cars and shorten the distance from the club’s entrance.
- Build additional parking wherever a space is available or appropriately priced to do so. We leave this up to your knowledge and effort to achieve.
We are committed to making the club the community space we all seek it to be and therefore sought to be proactive and request change in a matter that is turning Kode into a bitter experience and affecting its reputation amongst members and nonmembers. We accordingly expect management’s prompt cooperation and would appreciate receiving feedback with a concrete strategy and plan within 30 days as a sign of acknowledgment and commitment on your end to provide the sports club worthy of Kode’s vision.
