Improve Marina Safety Standards to Save Lives

The issue

Introduction:
Every year, lives are lost in marinas due to preventable accidents. While marinas are places of enjoyment and relaxation, they can also be dangerous without proper safety measures. It’s time to improve marina safety standards to protect everyone who visits or works in these environments.

The Problem:
Currently, many marinas lack adequate safety measures to prevent drownings. Despite advances in safety technology, there is no mandate to adopt these life-saving innovations. This leaves marina staff, customers, and visitors at unnecessary risk.

Our Request:
We urge the update of marina safety standards to include the use of new technologies designed to minimize the risk of death or injury from prolonged exposure in the water due to accidental falls. This should include, but not be limited to, systems like the Man Overboard Marina Alarm System, which allows individuals who have fallen into the water to signal for immediate help.

Why It Matters:
By updating standards AS 3962:2020 Marina Design, we can prevent tragedies before they occur. The value of a life is immeasurable, and investing in safety technology is a small price to pay for the security and peace of mind it provides.

Call to Action:
Join us in urging TYHA, MIA, and other industry leaders to take action now. Sign this petition to show your support for safer marinas and to help prevent future deaths.
