My name is Real and my heartfelt experiences with zoos have compelled me to start this petition. I have always been a lover of animals, but my frequent visits to local zoos have left me heartbroken. Despite the efforts of some dedicated staff, it is evident that many animals in zoos live in conditions far from ideal. Unable to live a natural life as they would in the wild, many exhibit stereotypical behaviors indicative of stress, such as pacing, self-mutilation, and other abnormal behaviors.

Official investigation reports have shown that in some zoos, animals languish in rudimentary, inadequate and even unsafe conditions. According to The Born Free Foundation, well over half of the zoos in the European Union are failing to meet even basic standards of animal husbandry, care, and welfare [source: The Born Free Foundation].

This petition seeks to urge the necessary bodies and zoo operators to improve living conditions for zoo animals through concrete actions, such as available space, shelter, stimulation and social companionship. Such changes can significantly improve the quality of life of captive animals, promoting their overall wellbeing.
