Like many residents in American Can Apartments , I have endured intolerable living conditions. From shut-off water supplies, lack of access to warm or hot water, to vandalized premises, the degradation of living standards is alarming. Persistently dysfunctional elevators and unsanitary stairwells make access to our own homes a shoddy experience. Further, during rainy seasons, flooding severely disrupts safe vehicular movement. Our paid parking spots become inaccessible, and the threat of vehicular damage from flawed roads piles up. Even worse, the ability to seek emergency help gets severely compromised. 

Despite enduring these hardships, we are faced with constant pricing increases. Additionally, we grapple with mysteriously inflated water bills tied to our rents. The condition of the apartments does not warrant this sudden surge in our expenses. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the average rent in New Orleans has increased by about 50% since 2000, yet wages haven't kept pace, increasing only about 2% during the same period. It's obvious that most residents are stretched to their financial limits.

This is a stark contrast to the promise of basic standards of living that any resident is entitled to. We, the citizens of New Orleansa and residents at American Can Apartments , therefore request an immediate halt to unwarranted rate increases and appeal for immediate action to rectify the living conditions of our building. We demand clean, secure, and livable conditions that align with the rents that we pay. Together, we can reclaim our city's dignity and create safe homes for all our residents.
