Improve K-3 Literacy in Georgia
Improve K-3 Literacy in Georgia
The Issue
Kindergarten through 3rd grade students throughout the state of Georgia continue to struggle with one of the lowest literacy rates in the United States. These low performance standards do not just impact students as they progress in the classroom, but it can have drastic impacts on their success in future careers and their ability to break the poverty cycle. There are solutions to raise these unfortunate numbers and help students to read on or above their grade level from the beginning. Promoting phonics education practices, increasing funding for Georgia schools, and getting parents involved in their children’s learning are only a few of the potential solutions.
We want to gather support to show policy makers that these changes to early education in Georgia are important to the people of the state.
