Improve Heating Systems in DSST Montview for Better Learning Conditions

The Issue

I am a student at DSST Montview, and the heating in our school is inadequate. My classmates and I are constantly freezing in class, which hinders our ability to focus on learning. This issue can be easily addressed with improved heating systems.

Cold temperatures can significantly affect a student's ability to learn. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), cold environments can lead to physical discomfort, reduced manual dexterity, and decreased concentration levels (NCBI). In Denver, where winter temperatures often drop below freezing, this issue becomes even more critical.

In addition to affecting individual students' performance, poor temperature control also impacts overall academic achievement. A study by Cornell University found that when office temperatures were increased from 68 degrees Fahrenheit to 77 degrees Fahrenheit, typing errors fell by 44% and typing output jumped by 150% (Cornell University). While this study was conducted in an office environment rather than a school setting, it still highlights the significant impact temperature can have on productivity.

We believe that all students should have access to comfortable learning environments conducive for academic success. Therefore we urge DSST Montview administration and Denver Public Schools district officials to prioritize improving the heating system within our school building.

Please sign this petition if you believe that every student deserves a warm classroom where they can focus on their education instead of their physical comfort.
