Improve Factory Farm Conditions - Animals Need Our Help!
The Issue
Animals in factory farms are often sick, emaciated, and susceptible to disease. Pigs are stored in cages barely bigger than their bodies. Factory farmed chickens are denied the freedom to behave in a natural way. They are born in hatcheries and shipped to overcrowded farms where they are fed growth hormones that cause them to grow unnaturally, resulting in excruciating skeletal disorders. Furthermore, chickens are killed in the way that preserves the meat best, which is live-shackle slaughter. Live-shackle slaughter involves chickens being forced through an electrified pool of water to stun them, and the struggles often cause them to break several bones. If the chicken is lucky, it will fall unconscious. Unfortunately, this method of stunning has been proved to seldom succeed. After being electrocuted, the usually fully conscious chickens have their throats slit. If the chicken does not bleed out in time, it will spend its final minutes boiling alive to be defeathered. Around half a million birds drown in scalding tanks each year. Animals can’t advocate for their own rights and are easy to take advantage of because they are small and easy to farm. Abuse of any living creature is immoral and animals deserve to live on safe and natural farms and to be killed as painlessly as possible.
