Improve Drainage Systems in Cabuyao, Laguna

Improve Drainage Systems in Cabuyao, Laguna
The Issue
I am a concerned citizen of Cabuyao, Laguna. Our community has been experiencing significant issues with the drainage system. This problem is more than just an inconvenience; it poses serious health risks and interferes with our daily lives, especially for citizens during heavy rains.
The current state of our drainage systems is inadequate to handle heavy rainfall. As a result, streets often flood, making them impassable and disrupting daily activities. More importantly, stagnant water becomes a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes which can lead to outbreaks of dengue fever and other diseases.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), there were 167,607 dengue cases reported nationwide from January to July 2019 alone - a figure that's 98% higher compared to the same period in 2018 (DOH). This highlights the urgency of improving our city's drainage system.
We are calling on local government officials in Cabuyao City and relevant national agencies such as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to take immediate action. We need comprehensive planning and implementation for improved drainage systems that can effectively manage water flow during heavy rains.
