Improve Drainage & Surface condition at Willsmere Park

The issue

UPDATE

A brand new playing surface is due in 2026!

Works began yesterday and will finish by the start of the 2026 season.

A new playing surface, irrigation system, and drainage will be installed. This means junior games will be played at Willsmere.

Thank you to everyone for their support.

The ground at Willsmere Park Kew East is currently in very poor condition resulting in issues for members of East Kew FC and locals to utilise the grounds efficiently. The grounds require an update to the drainage and surface to allow the grounds to be utilised safely.

The drainage at the grounds in Willsmere Park in East Kew was last performed 12 years ago. The system allowed proper drainage for a few years, however in recent years the grounds have become dangerous and unusable for members of the club and locals. The grounds have been rolled in the last month or 2 to allow them to be used by the members of East Kew FC, however at times it has been been far too wet and muddy to even attempt rolling. Members have been forced to use other grounds surrounding East Kew to train and play throughout the season.

East Kew FC has been lucky enough to have been approved for an updated clubhouse, however without a safe and useable pitch there will be no point. The grounds require urgent work to allow our players and locals to use the grounds to their full potential.  It has been heartbreaking to see our kids play every weekend at grounds and facilities surrounding Melbourne that have been upgraded when our grounds cannot be used for basic training purposes because it has been too muddy and dangerous to use.

We know that the council can help us if they see our community come together and demand better facilities for East Kew.

We ask that the City of Boroondara

  • Upgrade the drainage system and playing surface at Willsmere Park to allow East Kew FC and other clubs to train and play on the pitch safely and allow the local community to enjoy the facilities
