Improve disability access along Foster Street in Sale
The issue
I am reaching out to you with a personal story that highlights a critical issue faced by many in our community. My loved ones along with many residents of Foster Street in Sale, are facing significant challenges due to inadequate disability access along Foster Street. People using mobility scooters or wheelchairs are compelled to travel a distressing 300 metres on a busy street with a speed limit of 60 km/h just to reach a footpath. This not only puts them in potential danger but also restricts their independence and freedom.
To address this issue, we propose that the local council implement specific improvements to meet the needs of all citizens. Solutions include building a footpath along the north side of Foster Street, adding safe crossing points, and installing curb ramps to the path on the south side. By adopting these measures, we create a more inclusive environment that grants everyone the opportunity to navigate our town safely and independently.
Ensuring disability access isn't just a legal obligation under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992; it's a moral responsibility. It's about embracing inclusion, and equality in the fabric of our society, fostering a community where everyone can thrive.
I urge you to sign this petition to advocate for these essential changes. Your support is crucial in making our voices heard by the decision-makers. Let us unite to transform Foster Street into a safe and welcoming place for everyone. Please sign and share this petition to drive meaningful change.
