Improve City Infrastructure to Include Up-to-Code Streets, Sidewalks, and Curbs
The Issue
Having experienced firsthand the difficulties associated with accessing city streets, sidewalks, and curbs, I pledge towards making a change. In my family alone, there are several disabled and elderly members who are unable to utilize half of the existing infrastructure due to its poor condition. In addition, the roads we traverse have been detrimental to our vehicles, causing significant front-end damage not just to us, but to many in our community. I firmly believe the city can and must do more to alleviate these issues, but so far, its refusal to take action remains disappointingly unchanged.
Currently, there exists no universal standard for sidewalk conditions, yet a study by the Center for Urban Infrastructure suggests that roads and sidewalks in disrepair contribute heavily to pedestrian accidents and vehicle damage (Center for Urban Infrastructure, 2020). These basic infrastructures should be accessible and safe for all residents, taking into account the varying needs of the community-- including those of us with elderly or disabled family members, who currently face significant access issues.
It's high time we come together to call upon our city to meet the standards for accessible, safe streets, sidewalks, and curbs, before further damage and difficulty are incurred. By signing this petition, you are standing strong for community members in need, demanding roadways and pedestrian paths that meet modern safety standards, that are accessible by all, and are maintained to prevent undue harm to town residents and their property. Let's back our city into a corner of action rather than of refusal. Please, sign this petition to progress our city's infrastructure towards inclusivity and safety.
