Improve Cell Phone Reception in Rancho Palos Verdes and Surrounding Areas

The Issue

TO:

T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and Cell service providers - CALL TO ACTION

Imagine trying to help someone and the cell phone in your pocket is useless, dead as a brick!

On 08/07/2024, we tried to help an elderly neighbor whom we found lying on the sidewalk. Our street has no cell coverage and we had a tough time calling 911 ! We scrambled to find signal and got to 911 but our conversation was patchy and they could not hear us well. Emergency services showed up and despite their efforts, we lost our neighbor.

How can you assist a neighbor if you can't reach 911 from the streets?

How can you protect yourself if you can't call for help from the streets?

The reality of this situation is chilling. Our public streets should not be danger zones when it comes to essential communication and safety.

In Rancho Palos Verdes and the surrounding areas, there are numerous streets with poor cell reception— a critical flaw when every minute can be the difference between life and death during emergencies. According to the Federal Communications Commission, about 70% of 911 calls are placed via wireless phones and that percentage is growing. We need to reach emergency services quickly and communicate effectively.

However, our current conditions are falling far short of this standard. The telecommunication companies should bear the responsibility to provide adequate cell reception in all areas, especially on public streets where the chance of accidents and emergencies can be high.

We must make sure that no one else has to go through what we endured. Don't let our streets become a blind spot in the network. The safety and security of our communities depend on it.

This petition demands immediate action to enhance cell reception in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, Palos Verdes, and Palos Verdes Estates.

We urge you to sign this petition to demand better cell reception or boosters from cell phone providers with City Council's support.

We are not safe on streets if we can't call for help!

No one should be searching for a "bar" when saving lives.
