Improve bike lane paths in Etobicoke, Avoid falling off your bike!!!

The Issue

I am a resident of Islington, Etobicoke, and a passionate advocate for cyclist safety. This issue is not merely a statistic to me, it's a personal hardship. This month alone, I've fallen down and sprained my ankle two times due to the pot-holed state of bike lanes in Toronto.

The road quality in our district is insufficient and hazardous to cyclists. Multiple incidents of falls and accidents due to poor infrastructure, especially the numerous pot holes, have been reported. It is not just a matter of maintaining an existing infrastructure but improving the standards to prevent such incidents.

Based on data collated in the Toronto Cycling App, cyclists are three times more likely to be injured on streets with potholes (Toronto Public Health, 2017). With this alarming statistic, it's high time the city authorities prioritize road maintenance to ensure a safer environment for all road users.

A well-maintained road infrastructure not only protects people’s lives but also encourages a healthier and more environmentally friendly means of transport. Making Toronto a safe place for cyclists is a step towards a greener and more active city.

We call on the local government of Islington, Etobicoke, Ontario to address this situation as soon as possible. We need immediate improvements and sustained maintenance of bike lanes, particularly in terms of re-pavement and pot hole repair, in order to ensure safety for all cyclists.
