Improve Automobile Manufacturing Standards for Longer Vehicle Lifespan

Improve Automobile Manufacturing Standards for Longer Vehicle Lifespan
The Issue
At present, many automobile manufacturers are focusing more on ensuring cars are packed full with conveniences rather than engineering vehicles that are built to last. Currently, the average lifespan of a car on the road is around 11.6 years, according to a 2016 IHS Markit survey. Yet, there are more and more instances where cars are breaking down well before this time due to the prioritization of low cost manufacturing over longevity. This has not only led to increased expenses for consumers, but also contributes to environmental waste.
The purpose of this petition is to urge industry leaders and regulatory bodies to enforce stricter quality control measures in automobile production. By doing so, we can increase the average lifespan of vehicles, reduce capitalism-driven obsolescence, and reduce the ecological footprint of the automobile industry.
Not only will longer-lasting vehicles reduce costs for owners in the long-term, but they will also promote a more sustainable approach to manufacturing. In addition, manufacturers can still continue to offer innovative convenience features, alongside a solidly built car, without needing to sacrifice one for the other.
Ultimately, it is about striking a balance between convenience, cost, and longevity, while also considering the environmental impact. It is high time the automobile industry took responsibility and made moves towards more sustainable practices. Please sign this petition to improve automobile manufacturing standards for the sake of our pocketbooks, peace of mind, and the planet.
