We, users and members of Putlands Sports and Leisure Centre, are raising concerns regarding the current indoor conditions experienced within the gym area.

Over recent visits, members have reported:

• Elevated indoor temperatures during exercise (reported around 25°C on recent occasions)
• Poor air circulation and weak airflow across parts of the gym floor
• Attempts by staff to improve conditions through additional fans, which users report have not significantly improved airflow or comfort
• Concerns regarding comfort during exercise and difficulty cooling down afterwards

We would also like to highlight that a large proportion of regular gym users include older adults and pensioners. For this reason, maintaining comfortable indoor conditions and adequate airflow is especially important to ensure users can continue exercising safely and comfortably.

We would also like to highlight the wider context that current operator arrangements have changed following recent administrative developments involving the leisure provider.

While we understand that longer-term improvements may require planning and investment, we respectfully request that Tunbridge Wells Borough Council reviews these concerns as a priority and considers appropriate interim measures to improve airflow and reduce excessive heat where possible.

Potential measures could include:

reviewing ventilation and airflow performance,
assessing climate control systems,
and considering temporary operational improvements while longer-term plans are developed.
This request is made in the interest of member wellbeing, maintaining a suitable leisure environment, and ensuring users can continue accessing the facility comfortably.

We therefore ask TWBC to review this matter urgently and consider action where appropriate.

We are asking for:

✔ Consideration of interim cooling measures
✔ Action to improve comfort and indoor conditions for gym users
