I am a student at a school in San Antonio, TX, USA. My personal experience has shown me that our administration and teaching standards need significant improvement. Our education system is the foundation of our future, yet it seems to be crumbling under inadequate leadership and subpar teaching methods.

Our school administration is falling. Students are getting bullied and mistreated by peers and teachers. Specific students are targeted for unclear reasons. We’re given unfair punishments as the school struggles with disciplinary issues. Our grading policy needs to be fixed. Students who don’t try get the same grades as students who try their hardest; all our grades have a curve which is unfair to those students. We don’t have enough teachers for our classes nor do we have principals. This lack of having teachers is hindering our education as we aren’t being taught the right way. We are just handed work and have to teach ourselves. They’re also isn’t many accommodations for kids with learning disabilities, they are not getting the help they need. As well as our Spanish speakers, we don’t have an esl teacher and they aren’t getting the help nor the education they deserve.

In San Antonio specifically, only 37% of students are proficient in reading by the end of third grade according to data from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This is far below the national average. The lackluster performance can be attributed to ineffective administrative policies and outdated teaching practices.
