Improve Accessible Travel to Cray Wanderers Community Football Club
The Issue
Bring Better Public Transport to Cray Wanderers FC!
Cray Wanderers FC — London’s oldest football club and a proud part of the Bromley community since 1860 — is more than just a football ground. It’s a welcoming space for sports, youth development, and inclusive community events that bring people together from all walks of life.
But for many, getting to the club is a real challenge.
Situated on a fast-moving dual carriageway with no direct public transport access, Cray Wanderers FC is currently not served by any bus route. The nearest train station is a 25-minute walk away, and the closest bus stop is nearly 20 minutes on foot, across busy roads with only one distant pedestrian crossing.
For elderly residents, people with disabilities, low-income families, and those without access to a car, this journey is difficult, dangerous — and often impossible.
We need a solution — and we believe it's within reach.
We’re calling on TfL and the London Borough of Bromley to:
Introduce a new or extended bus route directly to Cray Wanderers FC
This is the most effective way to make the club accessible to everyone. Two major bus routes already pass close by:
Bus 233 – from Eltham to Swanley, stopping at Eltham Station, Sidcup Station, Ruxley Corner, and Swanley Station.
Bus 321 – from New Cross to Foots Cray Tesco, stopping at New Cross Gate, Lewisham, Eltham, and Fiveways.
A small extension of either route could connect Cray Wanderers FC directly to key areas across southeast London and Kent — making it easier and safer for people from Lewisham, Eltham, Sidcup, Swanley, and beyond to attend matches and community events.
As a secondary option, we propose building a safe pedestrian walkway
If a bus route extension is not immediately possible, creating a direct pedestrian link — as shown in the attached photo — would reduce the walking time from the current bus stops to just 3 minutes, making a significant difference for non-drivers and vulnerable visitors.
Why it matters:
Accessible transport means inclusive events
Direct access means safer journeys
Better connections mean stronger communities
Thousands of people — young players, elderly supporters, community groups, and local families — would benefit from a direct transport link to Cray Wanderers FC. With your support, we can make sure no one is excluded from all the club has to offer.
We’re asking TfL and Bromley Council: bring the bus to Cray Wanderers. Or at the very least, bring the path.
Let’s make the club truly open to all.
