Improve Accessibility to Twin Oaks Business Park by Opening Additional Road Access
The Issue
As a local business owner in the Twin Oaks Business Park, I have experienced firsthand the difficulties and frustrations that come with the limited road access to the Twin Oaks Business Park since closure of E.C. Row Avenue East. This two-lane route running along side the E.C. Row Expressway near Banwell Road was one of two access points connecting to the nearby Twin Oaks Business Park. Since its permanent closure following construction of the NextStar Energy EV battery plant, our employees and patients of our practice often voice their concerns about reaching our healthcare facilities due to this issue.
I am concerned that employees and customers are now being limited to a single access point at Twin Oaks Drive, just off Lauzon Parkway near the E.C. Row Expressway interchange. Not only is this creating difficulties in accessing our thriving business area, it is creating a serious health and safety concern as I have witnessed several serious automobile collisions due to the traffic congestion and limited ramp access from EC row. This is further compounded by foot traffic in the area, due to the lack of city transportation to the business park. Will it take a tragedy for the City of Windsor to take these matters serious?
Furthermore on Monday January 08 2024, I was recently stranded in the area for two hours because of downed power lines on Twin Oaks Drive, as traffic could not enter or leave the business park. This is a clear indication of how this situation can escalate into a serious health and safety concern if a larger emergency situation were to ever present itself.
The current infrastructure is insufficient for the volume of traffic that frequents this business park daily. This will only be further exacerbated with the former CS Wind Building being occupied and once the battery plant is fully operational. This not only affects businesses like ours but also hampers emergency services' response times and overall community accessibility.
We urge local authorities to take immediate action by opening additional road access points into Twin Oaks Business Park. This will not only alleviate traffic congestion but also ensure that residents and visitors alike can reach essential services without undue delay or risk.
