Improve Accessibility for Elderly and Disabled Passengers at Taino Bay Cruise Port

The Issue

Our day in Puerto Plata was marred by an unexpected challenge. After a lovely excursion, our tour guide from NCL apologetically left us on the far end of the Taino Port, explaining that he wasn't allowed to discharge us closer to the ship. The long walk back was difficult, navigating a rollator over uneven slate walkways. We were not alone in this struggle; others also had issues with accessibility. An older couple found the walkway treacherous and a potential tripping hazard while another woman who pushed her sister in a wheelchair was exhausted by the time she boarded the ship.

Taino Bay is beautiful and offers many wonderful shops, restaurants and experiences but it's challenging for those with mobility disabilities due to its long distance from pier to ship and difficult slate walkways. This issue affects not only individuals but also impacts families who are unable to fully enjoy their visit because they are concerned about their loved ones' safety.

We urge Taino Bay Cruise Port authorities to reconsider their policies regarding where passengers can be discharged after excursions, especially those who are elderly or disabled. Allowing these passengers to disembark closer to their ships would greatly improve accessibility at this port and ensure that everyone can enjoy all that Puerto Plata has to offer without unnecessary hardship or risk.

Please sign this petition urging Taino Bay Cruise Port authorities for better accommodation of elderly and disabled passengers so we can all visit again with pleasure.
