Improve Accessibility at The Bowmanville Mall Metro / Shoppers Drug Mart

The Issue

As a resident of Bowmanville, ON, Canada, I have seen first-hand how our senior citizens from Strathaven struggle to access the facilities within our local mall due to accessibility issues at the Metro entrance. This not only limits their independence but also restricts them from participating in community activities. In addition to causing inconvenience to the elderly it adversely effects Bowmanville’s small businesses.

The elderly and disabled population face numerous challenges on a daily basis, and it is our moral and social responsibility to alleviate any barriers that hinder their participation in community activities. By addressing this issue, we can demonstrate our commitment to creating a more inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of their physical abilities or age.

According to Statistics Canada (2017), approximately 22% of Canadians aged 15 years and over had one or more disabilities that limited them in their daily activities. This percentage increases significantly with age; nearly 38% among those aged 65-74 years old have disabilities.

It is clear that this issue affects a significant portion of our population. Therefore, we urge Metro and Shoppers Drug Mart - two major establishments within The Bowmanville Mall - to take immediate action by improving accessibility at the mall's entrance.

By signing this petition, you are supporting an initiative that promotes inclusivity for all members of our community. Let's ensure everyone has equal opportunities to participate fully in society without any hindrance due to lack of accessible infrastructure! Please sign this petition today!
