Improve ACC Support for Traumatic Brain Injury (NZ)

Improve ACC Support for Traumatic Brain Injury (NZ)
The issue
Kia Ora Aotearoa,
Have you or someone you know been on ACC after experiencing a Traumatic Brain Injury? (Concussion/blow to the head, mild or otherwise)
Might you have a head injury in the future and need to rely on ACC for support?
A group of us who have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) have experienced, or are continuing to experience, ACC systems to be lacking, inappropriate, and unsuccessful in their delivery of service and care to TBI claimants.
We have sent an open letter to the ACC Minister to request change as we do not believe ACC is fulfilling its mandate to us as New Zealand Citizens.
Please read the open letter linked below. If you or someone you know is having a hard time accessing ACC services following an injury, then please support this petition to encourage ACC to make the changes necessary to better help all of us in Aotearoa recovery our Health, Independence, and Participation at a time we are most vulnerable.
A brain injury takes almost everything from you, ACC can make it take more! Please help us to change TBI outcomes for everyone so that they don't have to be as crippling as they have become under ACCs current systems and processes.
The letter is structured as such:
- Introduction
- [1.0] Areas we would like addressed - Would these help you recover?
- [2.0] Negative ACC Cultures that need addressing - Have you experienced these toxic cultural traits of ACC?
- Conclusion
- [3.0] A Brief list of our experiences of ACC - Can you relate to these?
- [4.0] Appendix - Relevant ACC Act 2001 points and 2x ACC Strategies to show that ACC does in fact know it needs to improve, though we have not experienced evidence that these strategies were implemented.
