Improper Waste Disposal

Improper Waste Disposal
The Issue
One of the causes of these problem is the behavior of the people towards waste management. Other people just throw garbage anywhere, they do not think the possible cause of their actions on our health.
Poor waste management contributes to climate change and air pollution, and directly affects many ecosystems and species. Landfills, considered the last resort in the waste hierarchy, release methane, a very powerful greenhouse gas linked to climate change.
Soil, water and air pollution can all be a result of improper waste disposal and occurs when either of them becomes contaminated with hazardous materials. Not only does this contribute to the creation of a greenhouse gas effects but also causes significant harm to marine and wildlife.
1. Landfill pollution
There is a lack of proper on-site waste management in most landfills.
This issue increases leachate, the liquid formed when waste breaks down in the landfill.
This liquid is highly toxic and can pollute land, groundwater, and waterways.
The next issue is greenhouse gases. When organic materials like food scraps are sent to landfills, they are covered by other trash.
2. Flawed regulations and laws
Nowadays, waste disposal and management have become a profit-making venture.
The corporation’s goal is to make profits regardless of the waste reduction requirements.
