The Issue

Impose Prison Sentences, NOT Suspended Sentences For ALL Acts Of Animal Cruelty

Yet again, another case of ‘APPALLING’ animal cruelty has resulted in only suspended sentences instead of jail sentences for the two offenders.

1.  Two men restrained a deer and recorded videos as it was mauled by dogs in "appalling" acts of cruelty. David Pringle and Lennon Gibbinson were both handed suspended prison sentences after a court heard of their horrific treatment of the restrained animal.

‘One of the men stood on the neck of a deer before a dog lead was put around its neck. A boy was seen to kick the deer in the neck before the boy is seen to drag the deer across the floor.

The deer was then held by the other man while they let the dogs attack the deer.’

Both men only received suspended sentences.

Following the introduction of the Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Act 2021, the maximum jail sentence for certain animal cruelty offences has been increased to 5 years. However very few cases result in even a short prison presence. (The above case of animal cruelty certainly warranted a prison sentence)

  1. Northumberland pair held deer and filmed it being mauled by dogs in 'appalling' cruelty

We demand that those found guilty in ALL cases of animal cruelty receive prison sentences NOT suspended suspended. Suspended sentences are not a deterrent to stop further cases.
