IMPLEMENTING RECYCLED PLASTIC TRASH BIN IN SAN JUAN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL-STAND ALONE

The Issue

INTRODUCTION

Plastics waste had become a serious problem in the world today. Due to the rapid and continuous increase in the population, the amount of waste generating is increasing day by day because of human activities. According to the world waste, every year we dump a massive 2.12 billion tons of plastic waste. If all this waste was put on trucks they would go around the world 24 times. This stunning amount of plastic waste is partly because 99 percent of the stuff we buy is trashed within 6 months.

Plastics are in expensive and durable. These are the reason why the plastic production by humans are very high and the demand keeps on increasing. Human activities have the potential to endanger human life and the natural ecosystems. This is experienced when plastics such as plastic bottle, plastic bags, and others are. being utilized/used for packaging, after they are being utilized, it is realized that they are discarded recklessly without thinking of what will be the consequence. These plastic wastes litters everywhere when not well discarded/disposed affecting the wildlife, wildlife habitat, humans and producing chocking, and pungent odour, where can lead into plastic pollution.

Plastic pollution can alter habitats and natural processes, reducing ecosystems ability to adapt to climate change, directly affecting millions of people's livelihoods, food production capabilities and social well-being. UNEP's body of work demonstrates that the problem of plastic pollution doesn't exist in a vacuum. The environmental, social, economic and health risks of plastics need to be assessed alongside other environmental stressors, like climate change, ecosystem degradation and resource use.

Reusing bottles to create a plastic garbage can is very important to our community's sustainability efforts. By turning these bottles into useful containers, we address the issue of plastic waste and provide a workable answer for appropriate waste disposal. These containers serve as outward reminders of our commitment to our environmental preservation, inspiring people to participate in recycling initiatives. Furthermore, we help reduce pollution and conserve resources by keeping plastic bottles out of landfills and incinerators. By using this creative recycling strategy, we improve our community and foster a sense of responsibility and pride.

The behaviour of students improved by providing plastic bottle recycle bins because the researchers observed that upon collecting, the number of plastic bottles increased compared with when researchers collected the bins in every classroom. The students have the initiative to help in recycling plastic bottles by placing them in the recycle bins instead of throwing them anywhere. Plastic recycling reduces the need to extract new, raw materials from the earth as it reuses the stuff that's already processed and protects natural resources.

PURPOSE

This project aims to raise awareness among students, teachers, parents, and future proponents about the importance of recycling. promote creativity in recycling

plastic bottles and reduce plastic waste to improve waste management and making the environment more attractive and cleaner.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The importance of creating a recycle bin in every classroom is to educate the students on the proper way of segregating and recycling. Biodegradable and non- biodegradable wastes should be separated to decompose and recycle properly. Recycling will lessen the harmful effect that causes pollution's to our environment.

This advocacy suggested that the students should be aware of their surroundings by being responsible for their waste. This advocacy also needs student participation to ensure its effectiveness and success. This advocacy can help to reduce used plastic bottles to create a useful trash bin. This advocacy also aimed to teach students about how to keep surroundings clean and presentable.

Based on the results, creating a recycle bin made of plastic bottles promotes the following: (1)Proper segregation It lessened improper waste disposal. Proper segregation improved waste management and helped the environment become more attractive and cleaner. (2) Creativity in recycling plastic bottles Plastic bottles can be recycled into something new.

This advocacy aims to benefit the following:

To the learners. This advocacy aims to teach students about proper recycling to minimize plastic waste.

To the teachers. This advocacy can serve them as educational tools, fostering environmental awareness and teaching students the importance of recycling and sustainability.

To the parents. This advocacy will also provide them awareness about the ways to avoid the inadequate waste management system. Promoting them the importance of environmental stewardship, and contributing to a cleaner planet for future generations.

To the future proponents. It will provide relevance material for students and other proponents undertaking advocacy. This advocacy will help future proponents with more information on the proper recycling to minimize plastic waste.
