Dear students of the Issaquah School District,

The students who have signed this petition are encouraging the school board to adopt the most comprehensive sustainability policy possible.

As students in the Issaquah School District (ISD) who are Sustainability Ambassadors, we are passionate about working towards a world we can safely grow up in.

Bellevue School District recently implemented bold sustainability policy, minimizing their environmental impact and increasing sustainable initiatives within their schools. We can do the same.

Here's how.

Our school district has an opportunity and responsibility to respond to this call by students, teachers, and community members. By adopting a comprehensive sustainability policy, we can educate students on the importance of sustainable practices while also significantly reducing our carbon footprint

A comprehensive sustainability policy goes beyond addressing basic district operations and extends into the classroom. The integration of a sustainable curriculum into our schools is critical to empowering our students to tackle real-world problems and catalyze tangible change. The intersection between classroom learning and community impact engages our students on higher levels than basic academia.

The city of Issaquah has implemented an extensive Climate Action Plan, which provides an outstanding opportunity for applied learning. Recently the city of Sammamish also passed a Climate Action Plan, providing alignment opportunities for ISD schools that are in the city of Sammamish border lines. ISD schools that are on the South edge of the ISD boundary are in the city of Newcastle, which doesn't currently have a Climate Action Plan, but students like us can play a role in developing one.

The time for action is now! We urge the Issaquah School District to adopt a strong sustainability policy and to include student's input in its development.

Sincerely,

Sustainability Ambassadors, Issaquah School District
