The Issue

I have experienced night terrors throughout my childhood and into my adulthood due to constantly seeing images purposely meant to scare me. Sleeping becomes impossible, and trying to watch positive imagery is interrupted by horror content. This petition aims to bring about change in the way horror film and show commercials are presented on streaming services.

We believe that all viewers should have the right to choose what type of content they are exposed to, especially when it comes to potentially distressing or triggering material such as horror films or shows. According to a study published in the Journal of Sleep Research, exposure to frightening imagery can significantly disrupt sleep patterns (Journal of Sleep Research, 2017).

We propose two key changes: first, a warning should be displayed before any horror-related commercial begins; secondly, viewers should have the ability to skip these commercials if they wish. These changes would allow individuals who find such content distressing or disturbing - like myself - the opportunity avoid it.
