Implement Visible Licensing and Increased Fines For Commercial Cyclists in West End

Implement Visible Licensing and Increased Fines For Commercial Cyclists in West End
The Issue
As a resident of West End, Vancouver, I am profoundly impacted by the reckless behavior of commercial cyclists on our city sidewalks. I have had three incidents this year alone where I've been hit by delivery cyclists. Each time, they've irresponsibly darted away without acknowledging the incident. This issue has widespread implications not only for me but also for other pedestrians and those with limited mobility. The safety of our streets is at stake.
With the number of commercial cyclists from companies like Uber and Skip the Dishes increasing, our sidewalks are becoming less walkable. This poses a threat, especially as the weather gets wetter and the nights darker. It's time for us to take the wellbeing of all pedestrians seriously and prioritize the enforcement of by-laws.
We urge our local authorities to introduce a requirement for commercial cyclists to display a visible license on their vehicles. This will ensure that they can be held accountable in case of pedestrian accidents. Furthermore, there should be a considerable hike in the fines for riding a commercial cycle on sidewalks or intentionally blocking them.
The introduction of these measures will not only help curb reckless cycling but also foster an atmosphere of responsibility and respect on our city streets. It's time to make West End, Vancouver safe and walkable again. We urge you to support our cause and sign this petition.
