Public Safety Petition for Road Improvements in WHANGARURU

We, the undersigned, are concerned whānau community members an citizens of ( Whangaruru ), and we are writing to bring your attention to the urgent need for safety improvements on ( Russell Road Rd4 Hikurangi South of Whangaruru ).

Issue:

The current condition of ( Russell Road South of Whangaruru ) poses significant risks to the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Specific concerns include:

- Poor Road Conditions, Lose seal repair,  exposed Bitumen cracks and uneven surfaces make the road hazardous.

Lack of Proper Signage of wandering stock in high-risk area unclear road signs and accidents.

High Speed Limits The  current speed limits are too high for the road conditions and residential areas, Schools local Kohanga Reo and Mārae 

Frequent Accidents There have been numerous accidents and near-misses reported on this road.

Request:

We respectfully request that the relevant authorities take immediate action to address these safety concerns by:

 

1. Repairing and maintaining the road surface to eliminate lose metal and exposed Bitumen potholes and uneven areas.

2. Installing clear and visible signage to guide and warn drivers of wandering stock in high-risk areas appropriately.

3. Reviewing and adjusting speed limits to safer levels, especially in residential and high-traffic area, Schools, local Kohanga Reo and all Marae areas 

4. Conducting a thorough safety assessment and implementing additional measures as needed.

 

By addressing these issues, we can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and ensure the safety of everyone using this road. 

Not to mention the wear and tear of our vehicles as a consequential factor due to these conditions . 

 

Conclusion:

We urge you to prioritize these necessary improvements for the well-being of our community. 

For generations in Whangaruru, Aotearoa, we've seen the sea and land as crucial aspects of our daily life. The oceans offer not just food, but a timeless connection to the natural world. The passing down of stories from our elders always includes teachings on environmental respect and sustainable use of resources, ensuring a thriving continuation for future generations.

In our pursuit of sturdiness, we now turn our attention to our roads - especially Russell Road Rd4, south of Whangaruru. The undersigned population of Whangaruru request urgent safety improvements on this road. Our community members and general public frequently use this road for various purposes, including traveling for work, Kids going to school on the Bus, Whānau gathering's. And our general public travellers 

Road conditions and safety features on Russell Road Rd4 are currently not up to the standard, contributing to numerous accidents and road-related mishaps. In a country where road fatalities rank as the top most reason for accidents (New Zealand Transport Agency, 2020), this issue becomes even more critical.

This petition is addressed to the Whangarei city council and Northland district Council. We fervently request that immediate measures are taken to address safety issues on Russell Road Rd4 North of Whangaruru to protect the lives of our community members, general Public and allow us to safely travel our Roads and to get home to our Whānau Please support Whangaruru towards a SAFER ROAD, SAFER COMMUNITY, SAFER FUTURE.  Sign our petition now.
