Implement Urgent Reforms in the Ohio State Medical Board's Handling of Sexual Assault Cases
The Issue
I am writing to you as one among many who have firsthand experience navigating through a system that appears more designed to protect itself than those it is supposed to serve. My personal story, shared online, has resonated with millions, amassing over 4 million views and capturing the concern of countless citizens committed to change.
The Ohio State Medical Board's current approach towards sexual assault cases leaves much to be desired. Victims often find themselves trapped in a cycle of victim-blaming and bureaucratic red tape, while perpetrators face minimal consequences for their actions.
Furthermore, the civil statute of limitations for liability in these cases is woefully inadequate. This short window often prevents victims from seeking justice as they grapple with trauma and fear.
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), only 230 out of every 1,000 sexual assaults are reported to the police. This means about three out of four go unreported, highlighting the urgent need for reform within our medical board's handling procedures.
Our primary concern is the lengthy investigation process for serious licensing violations, proposing the implementation of a notification/rapback and suspension system to mitigate delays and ensure public safety during investigations.
Additionally, we advocate for a change in the statute of limitations for pursuing civil action against perpetrators, firmly believing that extending this limit would provide victims with a more reasonable timeframe to seek justice.
We are reaching out to you with the hope that you can assist us in drafting necessary legislative changes and garnering support for these crucial reforms. Our commitment to making a positive impact on our community, combined with the stories of those deeply affected by the issue, drives us to demand immediate reforms in how sexual assault cases are handled by the Ohio State Medical Board and an extension on civil statute limitations for liability related to these cases.
In addition to this letter, we extend an invitation for you to join our peaceful protest scheduled for 2/2/24 at 12 pm outside the Ohio State Medical Board Rhodes Tower office. Your presence would not only amplify support for our agenda but also demonstrate a united front in our pursuit of positive change.
Please join us in demanding justice and accountability from our institutions; sign this petition today!
