Implement the Use of Boxed Water in Hawken Upper School

Implement the Use of Boxed Water in Hawken Upper School
The Issue
As a student at Hawken Upper School and the founder of Hawken Against Climate Change, I have witnessed firsthand our school's commitment to fostering an environment of learning and growth. However, we must extend this commitment beyond our classrooms and into our practices that impact the world around us. It is time for us to take a stand against single-use plastic water bottles in our vending machines and cafe.
Plastic pollution is a global crisis, with over 8 million tons of plastic dumped into our oceans each year (source: Ocean Conservancy). This not only harms marine life but also contributes significantly to climate change due to the carbon emissions produced during plastic production (source: Center for International Environmental Law).
Boxed water offers an environmentally friendly alternative. The packaging is made from renewable resources, it's 100% recyclable, and it reduces carbon emissions by up to 76% compared to plastic bottles (source: Boxed Water Is Better company data). By switching from plastic water bottles to boxed water in our vending machines and cafe, we can make a significant contribution towards reducing waste and combating climate change.
Our school has always encouraged us students to be responsible citizens who care about their community. Now it's time for Hawken Upper School itself to lead by example. Let’s not put a price on the environment; let’s prioritize its preservation instead.
Please sign this petition urging Hawken Upper School in Gates Mills, OH, USA, to replace single-use plastic water bottles with boxed water in all vending machines and cafes on campus.
